A 3.6-magnitude earthquake with a center of Gaithersburg was reported around 5 am Friday the 16th July 2010. It was felt by as many as 3 million people in the Mid- Atlantic region, according to the United States Geological Survey. Some reactions posted on Facebook and Twitter include: "Experienced an earthquake this morning for the first time.....i will never be the same....." "Yep, I felt the 5 am earthquake in Maryland, it was like a train was speeding by. The 3.6 earthquake was the strongest in this area in nearly 40 years."
